The challenge of this design/build project was incorporating a Japanese Garden into a front yard residential landscape. The homeowner is from Hawaii and wanted a Japanese Garden to remind her of her home state and ocean, complete with a “Torri Gate” and bridge.
With direct exposure to northwest winds, Japanese Maple type plants were out of the question. Purple, red, pink and white colors were used throughout the landscape utilizing a variety of prolific flowering shrub roses, barberries, cistena plums and a Newport Plum tree.
Buff flagstone patios and pathways wind around the garden with three waterfalls cascading over moss rock. A cedar Torri Gate and bridge, “zen” lights, washed Mexican beach pebbles, aquatic plants and koi fish add to the traditional look and feel of the garden.
