Winterize Your Sprinkler & Landscape
Tonight and tomorrow night's weather forecasts are predicting lower than freezing temperatures (26 and 27 degrees). This would be a good time to winterize your sprinkler. Follow the directions in your maintenance guide or go to our link /faq and download the instructions for "How do I winterize my sprinkler system?" If you have relatively new grass installed you may want to turn it on again for the next several weeks but keep an eye on the low temperatures each night.
All of your deciduous trees should be wrapped in the next few weeks to avoid snow scorch along the south side of the trunk (except aspens). You can get some tree wrap at your local garden center. Make sure and take the wrap off when the buds swell in the spring!
Once your sprinkler system is winterized keep an eye on the precipitation this winter. You will need to winter water all of your trees, evergreen shrubs and grasses when we have had little or no precipitation for two weeks or so. Water with the hose preferably in the morning to cover the root balls on days above 40 degrees.
Thanks and have a great fall!
