What should we know about winter watering?

This is a very dry winter for the front range community. Besides very little precipitation, there has been constant winds. The winds can be the worst enemy of plant material at this time because they dessicate the plants.

If you are not winter watering your trees there is not enough water for the plants to carry from the roots to the upper branches. Either the top branches will die or the entire plant will not have enough strength to break out in the spring.

You must water all your plant material, especially your trees and grasses, every 1 -2 weeks when the temperature is above 40 degrees. Water so that the entire root ball is saturated. If the drought continues, begin watering all of your plants, including bulbs, every 1 -2 weeks. Their life depends on it!

Thanks for saving a tree!
